Care to share your computing @ SUNY stories? [10 Nov 2006|02:43pm]

aco_helpdesk
My name is Kaitlyn, and I'm working on a co-op placement at the University of Waterloo, mostly in the Arts Faculty Helpdesk, but also for the Information Systems and Technology department. IST is trying to keep up with students' computing needs here, and we'd like to know what you like and dislike about your school's approach.

Do you find your teachers' expectations exceed what the school can support when it comes to computing? Does your school have a required laptop program but doesn't support it? Or, do you love how well you can stay wired on your campus?

If you'd like to share your thoughts, please do so by filling out a 5-10 minute survey here:
http://arts.uwaterloo.ca/~kgholman/survey.html.

The results will only be identifiable by IP address, and it will not be used in the analysis. I will only link your school to your answers.

If you have any questions, you can email me at aco.helpdesk {at} gmail.com.

Thanks, and I hope you're having a great fall semester.

Help Wanted! [02 Aug 2006|02:04pm]

I've been wanting to pass the reins of this community for a while; it doesn't seem right to me that the maintainer graduated 2 years ago, and doesn't even live in the area. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve this community, and would like to take over, please reply to this post.

Possible Transfer student? [05 May 2006|12:50am]

mxdemotions
Hey, I'm Ariella. I just got accepted as a transfer student for my sophmore year. I'm coming from a very non-typical college, by that I mean I currently go to private university in NYC (Pace U). So I have some questions,
1 - Typical college town? dirty bars? or is there some sort of outside life. I most likely will bring my car up so that I can get a job somewhere.
2 - Right now I'm an Elementary Ed major. I know Cortland is awesome for Education, but how is it for other majors. I'm thinking of changing my major to Anthropology or Sociology. Or double major, or minor I don't know. But, does it have a strong program for that?
3 - Is the Cortland administration good with paperwork? Pace was a hassle, always loosing things and messing things up. You always have to be on top of them to get anything done. Is it the same here?
4 - How are the class sizes?

I can't think of anything else I wanted to ask. But please help me out. Help me make my descion easier. Anything else, negatives/positives about the school.
Thanks!

SUNY CORTLAND ALUMNI WEEKEND EVENTS!!! [02 May 2006|08:13am]

bluefrogcoffee
Come on down to The Blue Frog Coffeehouse- just a down the street from campus- 64 Main Street, Marketplace Mall- corner of West Court and Main Street, Cortland, NY- Join us for a weekend of stellar music from 3 nationally touring musicians!!!

Friday, May 5th, 8pm- Edie Carey- $10
With her warm, graceful voice and her knack for cutting "into a subject...with a diamond-edged blade**," Edie Carey grabs hold of her audiences and doesn't let go until she steps off the stage. While her songs are what first draw listeners in, it's what she says in between that keeps them coming back. Carey's wry and self-mocking humor, coupled with her ability to tell a great story, makes audiences feel as though they have just spent the evening with a very close friend. Given the triple threat of her magnetic stage presence, heart-grabbing songs, and almost unearthly voice, it's no wonder that the word about Carey is traveling fast.

Saturday, May 6th, 8pm- Rachael Davis- $10
In September of 2001, Rachael moved from Michigan to
Boston and within the span of seven months was awarded
a Boston Music Award for Best New Singer-Songwriter.
In 2002, Rachael contributed "Lonely When You're Gone"
to the Respond II compilation, which also includes
such luminaries as Joan Baez, Dolly Parton, Ani
DiFranco, and Eryka Badu. Her influences range from
the jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald to the soulful
pop vocals of Patty Griffin -- with many more in
between. She is a contemporary songwriter but is
equally at home singing anything from traditional
ballads to Cole Porter to Joe Henry. In April, 2001,
she released her debut CD, Minor League Deities, a
collection of original songs featuring performances by
many of the people whose musical and personal paths
she has crossed throughout her life, including Claudia
Schmidt.

Sunday, May 7th, 7-9pm (special showtime!!!)- Peter
Mulvey- $10
Peter Mulvey's new album, The Knuckleball Suite
(Signature Sounds) is a collection of thirteen new
songs that aptly display why he has, over the length
of his extensive career (this is his ninth solo
release) been compared to such heavyweights as Tom
Waits, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, and others.
Collaborating once again with longtime writing partner
and producer David "Goody" Goodrich, the album is
vibrant, surprising, and in many ways, like a notch
falling perfectly into a groove for a musician with a
history as rich and diverse as Mulvey's.

help a canadian out... [23 Apr 2006|07:16pm]

campcounselor84
So through my procrastination for exams, I have found a few grad schools that I'm interested in.

I was wondering if anyone had any info on the Recreation and Leisure study program? I'll be graduating may 2007 with an honours BRLS from a decent university here in canada, but the grad programs here are so broad, and I want something more specific, and the program at cortland seems like a pretty good fit for me.

So yeah any insight from rec majors, grad students or canadians would be greatly appreciated! how are the profs? do you like the courses? how is the research? any info would be great!
